Lorette Whitesides


Trained as an astrobiologist at Stanford and Caltech, Loretta has been to the Arctic circle with NASA to study plant life in extreme environments and to the hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the ocean with “Titanic” director James Cameron and was featured in his 3D IMAX documentary, “Aliens of the Deep.”

 

Loretta has over five hours of weightless time in a 727 aircraft as a Flight Director for Zero-G Corporation. She and her husband George Whitesides co-created Yuri's Night the annual World Space Party in 2001. They also bought tickets to take a sub-orbital spaceflight on Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo in 2005 and George was named the CEO of Virgin Galactic in 2010. Loretta’s passion is maximizing the transformational impact of human space exploration and inspiring people to fulfill on what they came to Earth to do. They have a 4 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and live in the Mojave Desert.
